Basic Description

These are wax based artist quality pencils with a round barrel shape. They are sold in sets up to a maximum of 120 count pencils.

Pros

  • Excellent color range
  • They have a waxy / chalky feel
  • Muted color
  • Sharpen easily to a good point for detail work
  • Name of the color is printed on the pencil barrel
  • Pencils are slightly heavier to hold than many other brands and have a thick core (4mm)
  • Name of the color is printed on the pencil barrel
  • Color of pencil barrel tip is a good indicator of the color of the pigment

Cons

  • Expensive
  • Round barrel means they can easily roll off a flat surface which can be annoying and can break the lead core
  • Need many light layers or significant pressure to lay down strong color
  • Some pencil dust while coloring
  • Pencil barrel is slightly thicker than many less expensive pencils so can be tricky to sharpen in a standard sharpener.
  • Some of the wood casings can catch on the blade of basic sharpeners when sharpening

Price Range

  • $$$$ – typically AUD $50.01 + / US $40.01 + / £26.76 + / €33.01+

Conclusion / Recommendations

  • These are not one of my favourite artists quality pencils especially for the price.
  • The pencils have a muted color palette. I only use them when I want a more muted color in a picture
  • If you have lots of patience and prefer to work with muted color palettes then these are definitely worth a look.
  • If you prefer bolder, brighter colors that can be laid down quickly and smoothly there are other pencils on the market that will deliver this especially for the price.
